Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant support from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with results so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
