Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
