An individual who laced sweets with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult fell ill at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.
The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated materials including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his worries.
She stated the man continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She explained the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five children.
